As per standard practice, Chegutu Municipality recently embarked on a consultative process for the 2021 budget.
The Municipality started by conducting the 2020 budget performance review with its stakeholders who constitute the Municipal Budget Sub Committee, namely the Business Community, SMEs, 2 representatives from each ward, Churches, residents’ associations, Junior Council and the District Development Coordinator’s Office, on the 2nd November 2020. After the budget review process, the 2021 priorities flagged out were then translated into monetary figures with a view to come up with a tariff structure to fund the major capital projects for 2021, which included water network rehabilitation, sewer reticulation infrastructure upgrading, road repairs, construction of a school and a clinic.
The Municipal Budget Sub Committee largely agreed to maintain the 2017 budget tariffs which were denominated in the US$ currency, with reviews being made to other specific tariffs. The ward and stakeholder consultative meetings were subsequently held on 05 and 06 November 2020 and the generality of ratepayers were agreeable with the tariff levels set by the stakeholder-wide Municipal Budget Sub Committee.
