Chegutu Municipality has completed upgrading some of the infrastructure at the Water Treatment Plant to improve pumping capacity. The works included installation of three new pumps, each with a capacity of pumping 250m3 of water per hour.
The previous suction manifold with a diameter of 200mm was also upgraded to 400 mm. This was done to address the bottleneck between the low lift pumps and the high lift pumps, with a view to match the capacity of the low lift pumps with the high lift pumps. This was meant to improve the pressure of water in the distribution network as the water treatment plant will now run 24 hours, non-stop. Completion of this project is expected to augment other ongoing water infrastructure rehabilitation projects, towards improvements in the quantity and pressure of water reaching the consumers.
