Municipal Police Training Programme

To improve Municipal Policing standards, Chegutu Municipality recently undertook a rigorous training programme for its Municipal Police officers. The training took on board 21 officers, some of whom were new recruits.

The training started on the 1st July 2019, culminating in a pass-out parade conducted on 9 August 2019. The training covered both the physical aspects of policing as well as the software concepts. The course content included aspects such as Municipal police duties, Physical Training, Council Code of Conduct, Public Relations, Communication, Guarding and Patrolling of Council premises, Electronic Security, Criminal Law, Basic Criminal Investigation, Access Control, First Aid, Traffic Management, Powers of arrest, Use of Force and Firearms, Crime Scene Attendance, Surveillance, Undercover Operations, Loss Control, Risk Management, Policing, Physical Security, Pedestrian Access Control, Principles of Community Policing, Investigation of Crime, Human Rights Policing, Gender, Law Enforcement and the Rights of Women, Delegation, Motivation and Drills, amongst other subjects. Resource persons for the training programme were drawn from the Chegutu Magistrates Court, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Council officials, Chegutu Rural District Council, among other organizations.

The Mayor of Chegutu Municipality, Cllr. Henry Muchatibaya was the Guest of Honour for the pass-out parade. The Mayor of Marondera and his delegation comprising Councillors and Municipal security officials also graced the occasion. The guest local authority also intended to conduct a similar Municipal Police training programme. The graduates were presented with certificates by the Mayor of Chegutu and Mayor of Marondera.
